I got hit by a boat whilst windsurfing

Recommended Posts

On Feb 25 whilst sailing a small tinnie boat powered by a motor T boned me.

Never saw a thing. Vaguely remember treading water and knowing id been in a serious accident.

Owner of the boat pulled me from the water....seemingly but i recall nothing of that.

I do remember on his boat seeing his two 5 year old twin sons.

Next i woke up after the op. Knee bone was shattered and took three ops to bind it together due to sand and dirt.

Fema bone success after first op. i have a 30 cm rod in there.

Small fracture of left forearm as well as five stitches in my right forehead.

Still have a cast on my arm and a brace in my leg.

Leg brace comes off in just under four weeks.

Of the three surgeons i spoke to,two said i am  capable of a full recovery.

40 minutes exercise a day, eating super healthy and trying to stay positive.

In a wheelchair till my leg brace comes off then crutches for a week before hopefully i can walk.

Appreciation for my health is what i have leaned from this experience.

Going to take a civil action against the boat owner. He did seemingly pull me from the water. I was in the water for 10 seconds according to the boat owner.

No contact with him since and no apology has been given to me. I have two witnesses not to the accident but who will verify i was sailing 90 degrees to the wind.

Anyway, stay safe, whether that be on the road or water. Trauma injuries can devastate your life

You word against his, unless you have a witness or an actual recording of what happened this action can be very easily defended against. If there isn't enough evidence for a criminal prosecution to go ahead and I assume this was your first port of call, then a successful civil action would be very slim. However, go ahead, I want to see how much money you sink into this.

I hope the hospital never gave you a vaccination of any type of any other useful medication. Since you think they'll give you autism. Don't want you to think you could get hurt more than necessary.

Rule of water - power gives way to sail.

A powered craft approaching something like 30 metres must slow down to 8 knots.

He admitted to me he was travelling at around 17-18 knots though he may have changed his mind / lied in his Police Report.

Thankyou for the words of encouragement and remember karma is not real....

and is this law or just best practise??  because you know he's going to claim you sailed straight into him.

This was at the same time of the accident??  Where you've already told us your memory of the event was close to nothing??

18 knots is going some for small boat as well isn't it??

Also, may be worth pointing out; if there is a potential legal case here, be careful what you reveal publicly on this thread.

If the other side becomes aware of it, it could be used against you.

Hardly surprising less than 48 hours after the accident (assuming you've got the month right).

Wonder where this accident took place, local or far away.
