Annie Bynnol   612 #1 Posted February 16, 2019 Laptop battery has finally failed and presumably needs a new one- fair enough. However it will not work off the mains charger. Is this normal?
 Share this content via...
zach   234 #2 Posted February 16, 2019 I seem to remember some Dell laptops wouldn't work off mains if the battery was dead. That was years ago though.  Have you tried...  Removing the battery and just use mains.  Do you know the charger is OK? Any lights on the laptop to show it's working?  If you give the make and model it might help.
 Share this content via...
Annie Bynnol   612 #3 Posted February 16, 2019 Thanks: Removed battery - no change. Just tried the supply and it was intermittent, break in cable on the low voltage side. A temporary fix has shown that the laptop will work without battery. Next step is make up new cable. Before I buy a new battery I might try to re install the old battery to see if it will hold any charge. Acer Aspire V
 Share this content via...
zach   234 #4 Posted February 16, 2019 Sounds good.  If the battery does charge, it might be worth a couple of full charge/drains.
 Share this content via...
Annie Bynnol   612 #5 Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) Great-the battery gave an hour of heavy usage after its first full recharge. Sad- it has now has gone back to being dead or more accurately now shows itself to be fully charged after 5 minutes and drains in one minute. Ghozer   112 #6 Posted February 19, 2019 Yes, sounds like the battery has given up, when looking at replacements, be weary of "compatible" or none official ones...
 Share this content via...
