Relocating to Sheffield - need advice for good areas to live...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,
I'm moving to Sheffield in March for a job relocation and I'm looking for recommendations on what areas in and around the center are generally considered desirable to live in?

Looking for somewhere safe, with decent amenities (supermarkets, shops, etc) and generally nice to live in.

Thanks in advance

Several points you need to answer before anyone can give you guidance:

Rent or buy

Budget

Do you want to use public transport or other method

Do you want a family oriented area

Hope we can help.

Depends what you can afford... rich Totley/Dore/ or anywhere near the Uni/hospitals like Crookes. Check the recent BBC article about high performing secondary schools and you'll find other areas like Norton/Norton Lees are on the up because the local school is much improved ie Newfield in fact that list is as good an indicator as you'll get Link here

'In and around the centre' - within a mile radius of the city centre there is Hunter's Bar, Broomhall, Highfield / upper Abbeydale Road area, Nether Edge (though nether edge is probably further than one mile outside of city centre) all of which are pleasant areas. Norfolk Park, which at one time wasn't so pleasant, but has now some really nice houses and new estates is within one mile of the city centre.

Sheffield is a wonderful city..

Look to the south or south west for the acknowledged better parts...

And enjoy your time here.

What kind of house are you looking for? If you look at Sheffield as a clock face, start searching in Meersbrook and move round to Crookes and you won't go too far wrong with anywhere in between (6 o'clock to 10 o'clock).

If you extend to 10-11 O clock, then you get Walkley/Hillsborough with direct access to the tram.

If it's specifically a flat that you're after, then consider Kelham Island - a very up and coming (some might say "hipster") area with the city centre on one side and a tram stop at the other.
