Steam trains through Sheffield 2019/2020

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me how/if I can find out the name of the steam train that went through Sheffield Midland Station earlier this week - possibly Tuesday or Wednesday? I have looked online but can only find future dates.

Thank you

Not sure on the name, but it was a "Black 5" loco with a number starting with 4 I think.

Saw it briefly from the cycle hub.

I think it there on Tuesday about lunchtime

Wikipedia mentions 18 are preserved, but only 5 are mainline certified...

Not sure which one I saw though

Steam locomotive No.45212 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Chesterfield and Keighley on Tuesday 15th January 2019.

The Black 5 locomotive is on a light engine movement from Toton TMD to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

The steam locomotive will depart Toton TMD at approximately 08:51 am.

The railtour will then leave for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, where it will steam through Langley Mill (09:08), Alfreton (09:18), Chesterfield (09:34) and Grindleford (10:41) before arriving into Sheffield at 11:49.

Those numbers are about right for number of steam engines owned by the KWVR.

Nationally, there are about 20 engines with current mainline certificates(applied for annually, so always changing).

Another 30 have recently had, are awaiting or will get mainline running certificates.

Another 100+ steam engines in steam on standard gauge heritage railways.

Dozen more in passenger service on narrow gauge.

More being re-built.

Many more in storage or mothballed.

A few in bits

One or two being built from scratch.

Morning, retired interested in steam can anyone out there in the know tell me if or when in 2019 there are any steam runs that will pass from Sheffield Midland through on the main line either passing Meadow Hall interchange or on to the main line heading towards Barnsley or where I can find this information it always seems very vague when it’s going to happen usually getting to know after the event, many thanks.

Dear moderator, the title of this merged thread includes "15th Jan"

Please can you delete this date as it will confuse.

The OP refers to a day in the past and not future events.
