Exciting new project opening Saturday (2nd February) in Hillsborough

We will be providing training and work experience for young adults with learning difficulties.  A particular aspect of our project is to get our young adults enthused about recycling by teaching them sewing skills,  we will be recycling fabric and garments into practical household items such as rag rugs, rag wreaths, patchwork cushion covers, shopping bags etc.  If anyone is having a clear out we would love your old off cuts of fabric, ribbons, ric rac, buttons, lace etc.  More details to follow soon.

I  igjthave a suitcase full of fabric, my mum used to buy it but never do anything with it and she now has Dementia and can’t.  Let us know more details please

What a fantastic little project, I will ask around for fabrics, cottons etc.

T-shirts with prints on the front make great cushion covers.... they are pretty quirky too.

I've got a stash of upholstery fabric that I'd be happy to donate, if you can tell me where and when to take it somewhere.  One piece is about 10m and there's also a pair of huge curtains that could be cut up to make into whatever.

I have got a collection of all sorts of fabrics (fleece, t-shirt cotton jersey, woven etc) that I have not had time to do anything with and would love to donate it to something like this - please keep me updated

Disabled people are often treated less favourably by society and its institutions, many employers see the disability rather than the person and are less inclined to offer employment. Adults with learning difficulties have very limited opportunities to engage in meaningful work  and are engaged in uncreative routinised activity that does nothing for their self-esteem or quality of life. They are denied the right to utilise their talents and fulfil their potential.  Faith Hope & Charity is an organisation that will provide training and work experience for young adults in a shop selling good quality donated items. Students will be trained then supported to carry out a range of tasks necessary to run an effective retail outlet.  A particular aspect of our project is to get young adults enthused about recycling by teaching them sewing skills so any garments that are difficult to sell and be redesigned into household items such as patchwork cushions, rag wreaths and rugs thus reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill. 

We will be opening our shop this Saturday 2nd February at 16 Holme Lane Hillsborough.

Hi 

Thank you to everyone who has posted comments on here, so sorry I haven't been able to reply but have been really busy getting our shop ready for opening this Saturday (2nd February).  We will be open Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri & Sat from 9.30 -4.30ish.  Our shop is no. 16 Holme Lane Hillsborough if  you live locally you can drop stuff off on any of those days or we can pick up (within reason).                                                                   Our students will be trained then supported to carry out a range of tasks necessary to run an effective retail outlet, they will learn how to liaise with customers and suppliers, take delivery of stock, window display, serve customers, work tills and give correct change. Once an individual has developed skills in a number of particular areas they can then be supported to extend those skills.   A particular aspect of our project is to get the young adults enthused about recycling by teaching them sewing skills so any garment that is difficult to sell can be redesigned into practical items such as patchwork cushions, rag rugs and wreaths thus reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.  There are no age restrictions, our project is open to any young adult with learning difficulties.  Jason if you would like to pop down sometime and have a look at our shop you would be very welcome.  We'll be setting up a facebook page very shortly (once we've decided on a shop name). Will post again on here soon so watch out for further details.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to donate fabric etc for our project, our shop  at 16 Holme Lane, Sheffield. S6 4JQ will be opening this Saturday 9th February at 9am.  Our temporary opening hours will be Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri and Sat 9.30-4.30 if anyone has anything they would like to drop off.   Thank you
