Desktop time problem.

The time on my desktop pc is not showing the right time even though I have re-set it a couple times. I am sure I once read on here that it could be a sign of something more serious. Can anyone put me right on this . Cheers.

A quick Google, using the phrase "Desktop time problem" shows that it could be caused by several things. Have a go through the list.

BIOS battery?

Yes it is usually the CMOS battery - most are CR2302 and easy to replace (unless it's a notebook!)

I think that's a typo. More likely a CR2032.

 

First 2 numbers are dia. in mm' s, second 2 are thickness.

Do all the CR2032 have the same power output or is there a specific type for the desktops?

Just realised how stupid that looks!! The 32 is 3.2mm not 32. 😳

Managed to change the battery but I was a bit nervous because it was only held in by a plastic surround and if I broke that I think I would have been in trouble. Thank you everyone for your help.

Glad you sorted it, but for future reference (and for anyone else) as part of the holder, there is a small flat metal piece at one side, push/squeeze this towards the out-side edge, and the battery should just kinda pop out... then put the new one in pushing that side down last to 'clip' it in...

Yes I saw that but I did not know if it was a connector, so I left it alone.
