Dont tell me, 32 years ago under the PTE that was running at a MASSIVE loss with buses that were not being maintained properly putting passengers lives at risk. Yea, lets bring that back. So if you're happy to folk out an extra £500+ per year through your rates then I'm sure you'll be in the minority rather than majority. Hence why a de-regulated market has worked throughout the country for the last 30+ years.  Transport for London are also cutting staff/routes etc. They face an increasing £1bn deficit and thus, bus routes are starting to be chopped/cut back. Have a read here: https://www.ft.com/content/920ad418-5929-11e8-bdb7-f6677d2e1ce8 The 32 Boroughs of London pay a tiny proportion of the £5 billion subsidy needed every year to pay for the public transport in and around London. This does not even cover the interest payments on the decades of loans and financial fiddling that transferred the debt to Network Rail. Now that debt has appeared in the National Debt, the Treasury is taking on the Government subsidy to TfL.  Chris Grayling (the MP for TfL and Crossrail 2) has indeed told the TfL to rely far less on national taxpayers subsidy. A start would be to pay for the millions of free journeys available to Londoners, not available to Sheffield people. Ask questions like "How much does each bus cost?" and "Why does that bus go from there to there?"  To pay for this subsidy, the promise of electric trains, new trains, more trains, longer trains , faster trains, longer platforms etc. for Sheffield were all cancelled last week. Perhaps Londoners might realise that we will still get to s**t all over the lovely St Pancras from our 40 year old HSTs for the foreseeable future.
