Hate campaign against a library

What is wrong with some people. I have no words to explain this.

perhaps they are angry at not being able to read

or perhaps, and far more likely,    they don't understand what a library is for

 

just exceedingly dim  really but alas we don't put people away for being one of those

This must be very disheartening for the volunteers after their time ,effort and commitment  but is it really a vendetta  against a library and the staff?  I would think it is the local mindless yobs in the area.

 

Remember what  happened to them yellow OVO bikes in Sheffield. Vandalised, thrown in the river Don and generally trashed-for what reason? It certainly would not have been the  uni students doing it. Mindless youths in my opinion.

 

  A few years ago I planted some Tulip bulbs in a small area of soil on the quiet road adjacent to my drive gates. The road is a cul de sac,  it`s a nice area, but people walk though to access other areas. Every year without fail since the bulbs  were put in the flower heads and stems are ripped off and thrown on the ground.

There will always be some people that hate themselves and their life so much that their hatred comes out in destructive ways that hurt others.

The people who are writing letters to the Star condemning volunteer library staff have some real grudge against them.

It isn't clear exactly what they expect to happen to libraries if they aren't run by volunteers? Will the Council miraculously find the money to re-instate all the professional librarians? I somehow think not.

Our local volunteer run library at Stannington which is most impressive in every way, has born the brunt of this vendetta by some nutter.

if people are "writing letters to The Star" then I think it's pretty obvious by their chosen method of correspondence, that the perpetrators would appear to be of a "certain age"...

It'a probably both Mr Bloke. Youths ripping down the posters etc and the older adults writing in to the Star. 

 

A library, a shop, a cafe, a taxi firm whatever is in a town or village all contribute to the fabric of the community. 

 

The letter writers must be erroneously perceiving the library volunteers like a scab that crosses a picket line. How naive they must be.

 

I have all respect for these volunteers-giving their time freely for the benefit of others, and for the benefit of the community in general.

I think this is an older person with a vendetta. I’m not sure a mindless young vandal could be bothered with this level of commitment, it’s been going on for ages.

Clearly someone with enough time on their hands to volunteer themselves if they feel so strongly about it.

Older folk aren't all sweet things - like the elderly man who called someone I know an 'ignorant t**t' in Aldi yesterday evening ! - delightful.

Most likely an ex-volunteer with a grudge against the group of people currently running the library.

Firstly, I have nothing against the volunteers themselves, they felt they were forced to take over, or lose the library. However...

 

The focus for the council should be on investment in Sheffield's libraries, the business case is clear: creating true social hubs where everybody and anybody is welcomed to wonderful, clean, smart spaces, where the population can follow courses on digital literacy, employability, wellbeing and mindfulness. Where the lonely can go for a coffee club, local societies and politicians can hold meetings, school leavers can study for their GCSEs and NVQs and Alzheimer sufferers can take part in memory activities, where Mums can take their toddlers to learn to read, or just to have them entertained for a couple of hours.

 

And believe it or not, to organise all that, you need well-paid, well motivated qualified specialist librarians.
