Ac adaptor symbols?

Recommended Posts

Trying to figure out what these symbols represent?

http://imgbox.com/Q5bIcr4Y

(The 2nd diagram's a bit rubbish! Imagine a rectangle with a rounded base, with an ellipse inside and a broad horizontal bar going across the middle!)

The adaptor's knocking on a bit, and doesn't feature the usual 'straight line with open C enclosing +/- format'.

All I'm trying to do is figure out whether the barrel connector is centre negative or positive...

I've figured out the other symbols on the casing : a house with an arrow pointing in, and a rectangle within a larger rectangle, but I can't seem to find these other two...

Ta for your help...

The adapter must be knocking on a bit.

I've never seen such a symbol. Have you tried putting a meter on it to see which is -ve?

No meter handy - that's the problem.

As for age....item bought early 2000's.

I've tried tracking down the actual unit - nothing found.

"Model No. ABN412001. Pri:230V~50Hz  Sec:6V~1200mA"

Boasts a "China Export" symbol, as the joke goes!

stick an LED on the end for a second , if it lights it's right way  if not, turn it round..

can figure out positive then ;)

but the right symbol looks like neg center...

I would imagine the 'square' with rounded bottom and circle like the DC socket on the device, and the - being the symbol for negative...

Try to isolate the symbol in the pic and run a Google image search

It doesnt state 6vDC on the output it seems to state AC so

could well be an AC output supply and the rectifier etc is inside

the unit , Cant be sure without metering the plug so just a guess

      Hope it helps

Well, found one of 'em... the mysterious 2nd.

It's a "Fail-safe transformer"....

"The non-short circuit-proof transformer symbol or the short-circuit-proof transformer symbol can be combined with either an Isolating transformer symbol or with a Safety isolating transformer symbol to produce a composite symbol. In this example, the Short-circuit-proof symbol is used in conjunction with the Safety isolating transformer symbol."

Crikey!

And now the other!

A "Thermo-relay" or "Thermal-relay".

"The relay / electromagnetic switching devices controls are activated by signals. Most of the time, a small voltage or current is used to switch other voltages or higher currents may be electromechanical or fully electronic type."

So after all that - and answering my own original question! - it doesn't actually tell me the connector polarity anyway!

It has no polarity other than Live and Neutral on the primary side.
