Its possible that there might be some loss of quality over time.

But don't despair, if you get digital copies then there are plenty of Photoshoppers who will be able to touch up the photos if they're not perfect.

How old is the film?

35mm film should be kept in the fridge and if not, over time (years rather than months), will tend to stick adjacent layers together.

I used Peak Imaging, its in a unit near to Crystal Peaks. They can tweak the settings for older film, I took several 127 and 35mm film rolls to them a couple of years back and the results were very good. One B&W 127 roll I took to them was 50 years old and although it was very degraded they managed to develop it.

Sorry to hear you've lost your daughter.

Realise you have emotional reasons to develop those films ASAP.... but please....

DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR 35mm FILMS WITHOUT HUGE AMOUNTS OF RESEARCH INTO WHO YOU'RE GIVING THEM TO.

I'm guessing these films are many, many years old, physically fragile and chemically unstable.

It's so long since high street photography retailers will have seen film, that most of their employees won't even be old enough to know what a 35mm stills cartridge looks like.

How well undeveloped film may have survived is dependent on so many reasons.  If there is any chance of rescuing them, you'll need a true specialist.

Probably start your journey by taking a visit to Harrison's on London Road.

I was going to suggest Clark’s chemist in Penistone. They know what they’re doing and are used regularly by people who still shoot in 35mm.

Its a a bit of a trip out there, but if you don’t drive there is an hourly train service (except on Saturdays) direct from Sheffield.
