youwhatref   10 #4 Posted June 8, 2006 I'm not a fan as right to buy as council housing should be for those who cant afford to buy. No wonder the waiting lists are rising.  As for Regency they are a company making vast profits from council housing, which shouldn't happen. If you want the right to buy, buy private. Mel's Mum   10 #5 Posted June 8, 2006 Regency (and companies of this type) are basically middlemen who make their money from helping you through the process. The process is quite simple to go through without a middleman as the council send you all the documentation you will need to get started. You can then instruct any of the many local solicitors who specialise in conveyancing to complete the transaction on your behalf. Guest   #7 Posted June 8, 2006 Halifax Bank (I'm a mortgage adviser for them) do right to buy mortgages at the same interest rates everyone else gets. don't go through a specialist company like 'regency' unless you need to, - ie poor credit rating, ccj's etc.
 Share this content via...
yorkiepudd   10 #8 Posted June 8, 2006 We bought ours without any 'assistance'. They are just out to charge you for the work you can do yourself for absolutely nothing. That's right, zilch, zero, for free.  Do not go there, there is no need. We contacted an advisor via the Daily Mails' 'this is money' website who got us a mortgage in difficult circumstances totally free of fees as well - his earnings were the commision from the mortgage provider and insurance company. Haydn1971   10 #9 Posted June 8, 2006 regency they are advertised on tv just wondered if anyone has done this  As suggested above, use a normal bank or building society, you will get a much better deal... Companies of this sort, charge a percentage fee that over the term of the mortgage works out quite a substantial amount, also I believe my Aunt bought her council house using such a firm, but was then tied in over something like 5-10 years...  Although, these companies often "help" people with a bad credit rating. Best advice if this is the case is sort your finances out first, use credit repair and put all your eggs in with one bank, they will look upon you better if they know all about your money in's and out's ! I'm sure there are other threads that will help "if" this is the case....
 Share this content via...

dongle   10 #11 Posted June 9, 2006 i think that the majority of banks/building societys will do 100% mortgages
 Share this content via...
midvixen   10 #12 Posted June 9, 2006 I didn't use Regency to buy my council house, I used Homebuyer Securities.  They were fantastic!!!  Yes, they took a commission, but when we tried to sort it all out ourselves, we found the cost was almost as much. The costs of all the surveys and solicitor fees were large and it was a lot of hassle. We started the process in late April and had completed by the beginning of June.  We have been with our original mortgage company for a year now and are in the process of remortgaging with Natwest. We weren't tied in with the original lender and can go with anyone else we choose.  I know to some people it seems like a waste of money to let these people have a cut but it saved us so much messing about and when you don't have a clue about mortgages it is a lot less hassle.  You can always enquire with these companies first and get advise with no strings and then compare with pricing it up yourself (as we did), then do whichever suits you best.  In the end, it will be beneficial to buy your council house as the cost of housing these days is outrageous!  Good luck!!
