Pyrotequila   401 #15 Posted December 1, 2018 We went to the market a couple of years ago, found it horrendous! Everything hugely overpriced, and the place was rammed to the brim, so much so that you didn't look at the stalls, you just went with the flow of people because you just couldn't stop. lindylou53   18 #16 Posted December 1, 2018 Been to Kelham Island Christmas Market today - much nicer than Chatsworth and supporting our local industries and heritage - £6 entrance fee.
 Share this content via...
Shazbat   10 #17 Posted December 1, 2018 Went to Kelham Island today and was quite disappointed. The weather didn't help, but there were no fairground rides as there have been in previous years, there were a lot less stalls and more gaps, and some of the artisan people like the woodworkers, blacksmiths, etc., weren't there. I realise it's on tomorrow as well so maybe they're there then but definitely not as good as it has been.
 Share this content via...

On the other hand in Sheffield, loads of people live in land, given away (by these people's offspring or heirs) to the city, in exchange for them building social housing on it, is also a consideration.  However, given the state of some of these estates now, we could argue that they should have kept it!  If the real lefties ever get in, Chatsworth will look like Peckham concrete lego sets as in Only fools, with some wind turbines on it.  At least the old rich folk gave us somewhere to get away from these concrete boxes that count for luxury town/city housing now. Albert smith   11 #20 Posted December 2, 2018 So do the drug barons in South America they have all got their wealth by ripping of and plundering the poor people in the first place.
 Share this content via...
siwid   12 #21 Posted December 2, 2018 From looking at the website I'm pretty sure parking is only free in if you're booking in advance to go into the house itself. In which case you're looking at £25 per head for an adult. If you're just going to the market and parking at Chatsworth House itself you'll still pay £10 during the week an £20 at the weekend.  https://www.chatsworth.org/events/christmas-market/
 Share this content via...

Do you mean the Inclosure Acts (I think some in the 19th Century may have been called the Commons Act)?  If you think that meant that land was owned by the 'working people' before then, perhaps they should have taught it better in school.
 Share this content via...
