Advice needed for new concept event management company

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm starting a new venture in the Events Management Sector. I have my concept & vision along with logo & branding.

Im needing advice on the best way to approach possible businesses to affiliate with please... My company is  tapping into quite a niche market which has huge potential.

Thanks in advance

Lisa

Depending on the scope of your business, get involved with the trade associations - I'd suggest looking at the Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) or the Association of Event Organisers (AEO). ESSA is particularly active and represents event service businesses large and very small.

What kind of events are you aiming at?

You could also join one of the many "junior freemasons" networking groups like BNI.

Thankyou so much for you're reply!! I appreciate you're advice and will look into what you've suggested!

We aim to cater for any event big or small, and either cover the whole  event or just small elements - whichever the client is requiring.

Main thing is to build up good partnerships with contractor companies who can deliver stage and set, AV, exhibition stands, floorcovering and furniture etc etc.

Try to find the most suitable manager in the organisation and drop them an email say something along the lines of "Hi, I'm the MD of X. We're a new company that I have set up to specialise in Y.  The reason we can delivering a great service is Z. If you want to discuss working together, please call me on xxxx. If you're not the right person  to be contacting, please let me know who is."

Short, sweet, but with some sense as why your company is going to be great to work with.

^^^This, but with caveats. Having a list of good suppliers who will not only work well with you but each other isn invaluable. But, you need to consider how you find them, and what’s stopping your client from finding them. This is why google has squeezed out a lot of event management companies over he last decade or so - why is a hard pressed client going to give you a slice of their budget when they can use google just as well as you can?

Finding that person can often be a chore, sometimes it’s head of marketing sometimes a MDs PA, sometimes they have a social secretary, once or twice it was a transport manager!

oh, and be prepared to travel - I know a few in events who are based locally and they’re always driving south!
