Having visited a friend who lives in the area (their mum owns a house there, has owned it since the early 80's, before the Roma families moved in) - They want out asap, they paid about 70k for their house, and it's worth 35k now..

 

The area is a cesspit, and they would go as far as calling it a ghetto...

 

There are streets in the area that the police won't even go down....

There are streets in the area that the refuse collection won't run..

There are streets in the area that some delivery services refuse to serve...

some of the issue is, the house prices are so cheap (now), some families have bought rows of 3 or 4 houses together, and move in the whole clan...

 

WHich streets are these? I went for a drive around the area just out of curiosity and didnt see much to concern me. Is there a 'centre' of Page Hall?

i thought the centre was the main road that runs from pitsmoor up to NGH and the shops that turn off at the crossroads, Barnsley road if i remember right?

Have you ever been to Moorside Road in Dewsbury? The Gurnos area of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales or parts of Scotswood in Newcastle. All exclusively white areas where many of the people who live there have no problem with leaving their crap all over the streets.

Good question. I've known and worked amongst members of the Roma people for years. They're really not very different from you and I. What they suffer from most is other people's prejudice and hostility - along with poverty.

Is there a reason why, when they move to a city they dont rent in a diverse area, rather than feeling the need to me among their countrymen and women.

Two reasons why they all remain in one area is that (a) it's cheap and (b) if they no speaka Inglese, they're close to somebody who can, or they can get away with not having to learn to speak Inglese.

 

Didn't David Camerloon stop funding ESOL classes, after Austerity started ? That would've helped them integrate
