Crawshaws Butcher perhaps closing?

Recommended Posts

Sam Smiths. John Smiths. After 8 pints I always get them confused.

Perhaps they were family and split the business. In Germany there are 2 Aldis ??

that’s Ze Germanese for you. Did you know the founders of Adidas and Puma were brothers ?

Hopefully they can get sorted, we get a lot of meat from the chain, always good quality.

But obviously they were selling it too cheaply.

If they can sell meat as cheap as they do it really must be rubbish.

If people are concerned about prices maybe eat less meat but better quality.

We've never had a bad piece from there.

The tomato sausages in particular are super yummy.

I've never found the quality to be great, cheap fodder.

How could this have possibly happened?

There meat is lovely and the shops are always full.

If these kinds of local shops go out of business then we will have no choice but to buy our food from big supermarkets

Really? I have used them twice and both times the meat was off. It was Retford branch. First time was the heat wave so I put it down to just the heat, next was Worksop branch since then I have avoided them. Shame about the job losses if they do close. Hope the find a buyer. Can anyone else remember Dewhurst?

The company started a rapid expansion project early this year and clearly it's not worked.

Most likely expanded too quickly and over extended.

Poor location choice probably didn't help.

In Barnsley they were bang in the town centre and their main customer base was the older generation. They (crawshaws) decided not to be part of the new renovation project to remain in the centre, opting to relocate just outside the town centre to a location at the top of a hill which has little to no footfall.

Their customers simply struggled to get up to the new store so stopped and used alternative butchers.

Personally I've bought from them on a few occasions and found the produce to be hit and miss. The last time I visited I did not purchase because I found out of date and/or spoiled produce still on the shelves. The manager when I spoke to them didn't seem to care.

A company with 600 staff is not a small business/local shop by any definition.

Much better to support the genuine independents around.

We've lost our Southport one. I always wondered how they could stay in business selling stuff so cheap.
