Commuting to Leeds from Sheffield everyday by train

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Started new job in Leeds - what are my travel options.

I am currently paying the monthly saver at £230.00 every month by train.

Anything cheaper out there such as coach or bus travel and costs.

Also is there free parking around Sheffield railway station or nearby as I am willing to walk.

Thanks in advance.

If driving is an option then you could use the Park and Rides, there is one at Elland Road and another at Temple Green, both just off the motorway network.

Parking is free and the bus into the centre which takes 10-15 minutes costs £2.70 per day if you get a magic ticket.

The buses stop at a couple of places in town.

Erm move why waste hours commuting

because its far better living in sheffield than it is in leeds

A long time ago (15 years!) I used to drive to Meadowhall (where you could park for free, at least at the time) and get the National Express bus. I seem to remember it was about £5 return but will surely have gone up.

Bus starts from Sheffield bus station and stops in a couple of places in Leeds. I got the return from Leeds bus station.

Try car sharing, Liftshare is a website where you can check out availability of car shares or offer them. See: https://liftshare.com/uk/search/sheffield-united-kingdom/leeds-uk/#filter/true/0/30/false/2

There is free parking within reasonable walking distance of the station, but it depends what time you turn up. It fills up early.

Where are you working in Leeds?

Elland Road park and ride is a total nightmare to get to in the morning, Temple Green is a breeze in comparison.

The bus drives straight into the city, does a little lap of the centre and drives back out. Obviously if you work outside the centre you'd need to change buses somewhere.

I don't call that saver. Sounds more like a ripp off.

Depends on time traveled. A daily return could be as little as £12, as much as £22.40.

I am working opposite Leeds Trinity and next to Leeds Train Station.

Temple green park and ride stops very close to there and getting there is far easier than going down the M621, I use it often and have had no issues.

Thats less than £6 a journey each way. I would suspect that the fuel and running costs of a car doing Sheffield to Leeds is going to be way more than that but there you go...

If it's a full time job then I'd move, that commute could be hell. Move to York though, not Leeds. Then commute from York to leeds.
