The Sheffield Forum Canon of 20/21 Century Literature.

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to establish on the Forum: "The Sheffield Forum Canon of Literature" ? (20th Century ). A, must read ,list of great 20th Century literature -according to the tastes of Forum readers.

I'd start the list with:

Barcelona Plates

by Alexei Sayle and I'll add:

The Dubliners By James.Joyce.

Murphy. Samuel.Beckett.

The Meaning Of It All, Thoughts of a Citizen-Scientist.

Richard .P. Feynman.

I think this would be helpful to those considering making a contribution:

Literature, most generically, is any body of written works. More restrictively, literature refers to writing considered to be an art form, or any single writing deemed to have artistic or intellectual value.

Longcol,

I shall get that book and read it.

You may find the link of some interest to you.

I think it would enhance the standing of the Sheffield Forum if we came up with our own "Canon".

I've only read three of the five books proposed so far.

I'll add two if I may:

'A Room of One's Own' – Virginia Woolf;

'The Plague' – Albert Camus.

Thanks for link to interesting piece on Eng Lit at Cambridge btw, petemcewan.

To start with all the 'Janet and John' & the entire 'Ladybird' book collections, without which, you'd probably not be reading any other books?

Baron 99.

Have you any other books you would like to add to the list?

Your favourites maybe?

Note: I was indeed raised on the Janet and John series of books , thanks to Chester St,  Primary School,  Ardwick , Manchester.

I shall endeavour to read your two chosen books. I've never read any of V W-but I know people who have.
