Best source for DDR3 memory?

Looking to upgrade existing rig from 4 Gb to 8 Gb so I can give more memory to VMs. Looking at the Manual for the Asus Mobo the highest it can take is 1866 MHz and can't remember what bandwidth current memory of 4Gb is so would probably need to do a complete upgrade of 8 Gb stick or 2 x 4 Gb - if memory (no pun!) serves me right I think it is something around the low end of the spectrum (no pun!) of 1500 MHz or thereabouts.

I bought some old DDR2 memory from CEX and had to get a refund - think I'll pass on that.

Having checked a downloaded version of Manual I think at 1866 MHz it will only support 6 Gb. And not entirely sure what the CPU supports:

And it is so long since I bought the motherboard bundle with Processor the Manual quotes are unclear:

• Due to the CPU specification, AMD ® 100 and 200 series CPUs support up to DDR3

1066MHz. With ASUS design, this motherboard can support up to DDR3 1333MHz.

• When overclocking, some AMD CPUs may not support DDR3 1600MHz or higher

frequency DIMMs.

 

On looking again the board supports 2000 Mhz with limitations:

What mobo do you have and which CPU, it'll be easier to figure out.

 

8GB doesn't become 6GB just because of the clock speed.

 

Also faster memory will run at lower speeds so take that 8GB and get on with it

It may not run at top speed and should just default to a lower one in the bios.

Keep in mind the table in the manual is only for memory that was available for them to test at the time the product was released. You can find a more up to date list here.

Hi zach, if you are in need then feel free. I am beginning to wonder whether it is worth updating the RAM on the basis that recently my rig keeps reporting Chassis intrusion, even after updating to the last BIOS update of 2015 recently. There is no option in the BIOS to turn it off (I thought there was) and have read somewhere that some motherboards have an on/off switch. I have also cleared the CRTC by using the supplied jumper and still getting Chassis Intrusion message.

 

@Magic_18 - I really do appreciate the offer - I used to be indecisive - now I just don't know!
