I preferred Spar to the Co-op as it was the smaller of the two so felt it was right to support the smaller shop, but now I'm angry these people have come, sacked all the staff or will be doing and we are losing a vital part of the community. Sacking and making someone redundant are 2 different things. The only people to the blame are the local people for not spending there
 Share this content via...

simon r.   10 #19 Posted March 18, 2022 Sadly we have been told this week the post office counter is now closing (March 2022). The Spar gave up on a full post office counter some years ago and replaced it with a single window before they closed the branch. As a local business we were told they did not have the room to handle our parcels any more. So while we use it for bits and bobs as it is within walking distance, for anything else we have to drive to Broomhill now. The new people in the shop have been pretty good / friendly but the last few months it has been run into the ground with empty shelves etc. so I suspect they are not able to make it pay. The big problem is the previous staff were treated shabbily when sacked by Spar, and local people sort of boycotted the new place in sympathy. Plus it does not really offer anything the Coop next door doesn't do better apart from the PO counter, so when that goes... unless they take it on of course. simon r.   10 #20 Posted April 20, 2022 The whole shop has now closed and fascia removed. The PO is still shown on web searches!
 Share this content via...

There is a yellow notice on the website saying "due to unforeseen circumstances this branch is temporarily closed until further notice".  Are you getting confused with Stannington Road Post Office further down Stannington Road, which is still operational?
 Share this content via...
