42fta   10 #19 Posted June 5, 2006 I had similar problems with my daughter's pc last year (just before building a new one) - turned out that there were old style IDE cables, 300W rather than 150W, attached to the writer drive. Nazo   10 #20 Posted June 5, 2006 Bit of a long shot but check the windows installation service san't been disabled somehow. You could try manually starting it too and see if that helps.  Are you running SP2?
