Climate Change thread

Recommended Posts

As brexit shows (sorry to mention the “b” word) we’ll definately decide to do something about climate change and the destruction of the natural world when it’s too late to do so, and we won’t even be able to agree then.

We’re <removed>.

i see the climate change propaganda has got the right on skoolkids  and shouty students all revved up today?

a few pupils have gone on "strike" to make people aware of so called climate change. dont they think they would be better off learning to progress in the world?

listening to some of them interviewed they sounded just like the offspring of "waitrose" mummies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47250424

It's a pity you can't give them a little credit for their efforts in raising awareness.

I watched a group of schoolgirls being interviewed on the Channel 4 news earlier and was very impressed with their passion and dedication.

Or they may just be questioning not there's an agenda behind the propaganda. Because it is propaganda, whether you believe in man made climate change or not. It may be necessary propaganda but people are free to question it.

Glad you agree with people to do what ever they feel like, freedom to protest.

Indeed, trouble is climate change denial is an issue that both right wingers and conspiracy nuts are obsessed with. They won't allow others to even contemplate climate change

The same people probably say they don't believe in experts,  like Michael Gove the Brexit poster boy.

I agree with the school kids sentiments.  At least they are showing interest in something that will definitely affect them & their kids if something isn't done soon.

Saw some of them protesting around the Town Hall yesterday.  However, one or two let themselves down by having banners clearly with sware words which are not needed, no matter how passionate you are about a subject, it just let's down your argument.

However on another note, noticed that at the demonstration outside Parliament, there were a number of folk walking around with Socialist Worker placards, mingling with the kids.

How long before the protests by kids are hijack for someone else's other political agenda? How long before a meaningful & peaceful protest is turned into some anti-capitalist protest with the kids possibly being led in a more disruptive direction?

This is a confusing post. Are you saying that all climate change deniers are right wingers, or that all right wingers are climate change deniers, and where does this leave the Chinese, the worst climate change deniers on the planet.

I suspect that this is an early candidate for most ridiculous post of the year.

Or maybe you should be concerned about how perfect  their passionate arguments are, it's like  they'd had adult indoctrination and rehearsed their lines, like this whole protest could be a result and influence of their teachers..?

Who better to influence them? Did you learn about climate change at school?

How do people learn about climate change if not at school, since some people are not into factual programs?

If they were influenced by their teachers, the teachers deserve to be congratulated.

Google"we are presiding over an ecological apocalypse "channel 4 news - if you haven't seen the studio interview, and judge from that.

They weren't actors or politicians uttering memorised rehearsed lines, they were intelligent articulate schoolgirls who were deeply committed.
