Tory's want to subsidise newpapers out of your taxes

Recommended Posts

Either this is the government propping up papers which nobody buys anymore because the paper prints stuff the government likes, or the state positioning itself to lean heavily on a free press. Neither option is very appealling.

Key words "policy levers", "intervention", "subsidising", "funding support" you really think they haven't got eyes on money from the treasury, you think Lord Rothermere wouldn't be interested in a revenue stream provided by the Government ? The panel is already stuffed with media representatives.

Considering most newspaper funding is now coming from loads of adverts on their online pages, or subscriptions, that would be my first response - not the government.

Like others on here, I think you're joining too many dots and forming your own picture.
