I very much enjoyed unforgotten on itv, waking the dead was very good too. On the fluffier end of the scale, and a more week in, week out sort of show is castle and the Closer. Cap tip too, to Motive for a different slant on the standard police procedural.

Any older member remember the detective show that launched Lee Marvin much like Rawhide did for Clint Eastwood? I think it was called M Squad and it wasn't half bad.

I liked Prime Suspect.  Helen Mirren played the part of  Chief Inspector Jane Tennison.
