So money has already been wasted on it?

 

It would seem so. Re-opened in 2014 after restoration - how has it got into its present state in a relatively short time? Obviously hasn't had its predicted use. One would ask why? Have the council not advertised it or has there not been any uptake for its use?

the usual issue the local community have had this on there doorstep for years and done nothing about it, it was renovated for the communtiyy who did nothing about it and didnt use it so it fell vacant.

 

now after being empty for years the council want to sell it and the local community who have done nothing and never used it now want it saving so it can become another drain on dwindling resources.

Yes that works well with historic buildings in Sheffield Just look at whats happened to the old town hall

why would it ned advertising its in the communiyy and the amount of work that was put into the renovaton is advertising in itself, use it or lose it.

Just received a mail from Change.org saying.

 

Sheffield Council dispute that Birley Spa is an Asset of Community Value.

The Friends of Birley Spa recently applied to give Birley Spa Asset of Community Value status. If this was awarded, then any owner of Birley Spa would have to give the local community six months to raise the necessary money to buy it if the owner wanted to put the building up for sale.

Sheffield City Council are now disputing that a Birley Spa is an Asset of Community Value despite it being thought of as a community building for many years. We have provided expert evidence to the council to back our case up. Clive Betts MP is also supporting our application. There is a Conflict of Interest here though, as bizarrely the council have to decide on the application even though they are the current owners of the building and have different views about it!

This is just to let everyone know who signed the petition that basically we still have a fight on our hands to save Birley Spa for community use, but we are still fighting and will not give up!

 

I can only see this coming out in favour of the council seeing as they are the ones selling it.

Received a mail last night saying that Sheffield City Council have now declared Birley Spa an Asset of Community Value. It says they hope to start negotiations though soon with the council with a view to keeping a fully restored Birley Spa open for public and heritage use but in a financially viable way.

Well the council have asset stripped the building, they have stripped the kitchen out and given it to another organisation and intend to sell the building in 6 months.

SCC continues to steal bully and plunder assets which do not belong to them , I suggest that you go to council meeting and challenge them on this , this is how dictatorship begins please act , don’t allow them to get a foot hold . Vote them out at election time , take photos use the press , Toby foster at Radio sheffield go in there guns blazing showing that this council isn’t fit for purpose, it our city , sign the petition so that this cabinet model cannot continue it rein of despicable behaviour towards the public that it actually represents.
