maryjane   11 #1 Posted August 22, 2018 I need a new engine for a Land Rover discovery 3. advive and recommendations please
 Share this content via...
Top Cats Hat   10 #2 Posted August 22, 2018 No recommendations, but my advice would be to buy an engine that you can see running in the donor vehicle rather than an oily lump in a scrappy's yard that you are assured comes from a low mileage vehicle owned by one careful lady owner.  Even if the most honest scrappy gives you a full refund if you buy a dog, you will still have to pay to have it fitted and removed.  Four things to look for when checking a used engine.  1. Does it start easily from cold?  2. Does it leak any oil when up to operating temperature.  3. Does it make any funny noises when running.  4. Does it smoke?  (I assume by 'new' engine, you mean a second hand one rather than a new item from a dealers)
 Share this content via...
geared   303 #3 Posted August 22, 2018 No chance of a rebuild on the current engine? or does anyone do a re-con/exchange for them?  Gets around (most) of the dud-engine problems when buying second hand.
 Share this content via...
Top Cats Hat   10 #4 Posted August 22, 2018 A mate of mine in Leeds is a 'Disco nut' but they all tend to favour the Mark 1s.  I'll ask him if he has any recommendations for local (Yorkshire) Land Rover engine rebuilds.
 Share this content via...
Obelix   11 #5 Posted August 22, 2018 Depending on what's wrong a rebuild may be preferable. What's up with it do you know?
 Share this content via...

Top Cats Hat   10 #9 Posted August 23, 2018 it broke down on the motorway. no warning. no lights on. garage say the engine is seized  How many miles has the Discovery done?  It's unlikely that it would have seized unless it was completely out of oil. Even with a faulty oil pressure sender or light, an engine getting hot enough to seize would be chucking out all sorts of warnings via the ECU.  What does the garage say is the cause? Lots of info on specialist forums, so here's an example.
 Share this content via...
