Longcol   601 #14 Posted August 10, 2018 Might it be the burning of the midnight lamp?  Or a purple haze?
 Share this content via...
RiffRaff   10 #15 Posted August 10, 2018 Or a purple haze?  Or just a house burning down. Either way, it's drifting....
 Share this content via...
1978 Â Â 14 #16 Posted August 10, 2018 (edited) Looks and smells serious at The Roaches near Leek, see; https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/fire-the-roaches-staffordshire-moorlands-1880013 Â Wind/breeze is in right direction to bring smoke our way in Sheffield, it certainly smells bad and it's a blue haze here in S17! Â Forecast for that area has some light rain this afternoon, so that may help to dampen it down Edited August 10, 2018 by 1978 Update with weather
 Share this content via...
bluecanary   13 #17 Posted August 10, 2018 Was on Look North this morning - apparently it is the Staffordshire fire. Loxley Valley looks very hazy indeed from up here in Walkley and the smell seems to be getting worse.   Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
 Share this content via...
Olive   10 #18 Posted August 10, 2018 Would smoke from that far away realty smell so strong though? Seems a bit far-fetched to me. The reason I got up and had a scout around this morning was that it was so strong here in Hillsborough, I was worried our house, or a neighbour's was on fire - I couldn't go back to bed without making sure! This much smaller fire is 25 miles away, the Saddleworth Moor fire smell was noticeable 40 miles away.  Coverage from StokeonTrentLive
 Share this content via...
Olive   10 #20 Posted August 10, 2018 I guess, if the wind is going in the right direction.  I thought it had a smell of burnt tyres though.  Mind you, I wasn't particularly with it at that time in the morning.
 Share this content via...
tommythecat   10 #21 Posted August 10, 2018 I thought it had a smell of burnt tyres though.  There was a separate fire - burning tyres - by the Cadbury's factory
 Share this content via...
Olive   10 #22 Posted August 10, 2018 There was a separate fire - burning tyres - by the Cadbury's factory  Now that would make a bit more sense. Was that this morning?  ---------- Post added 10-08-2018 at 12:12 ----------  Here we go, I've found this on the Star:  https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/tyres-set-alight-behind-cadbury-s-factory-in-sheffield-1-9293853  I think that was our culprit here in Hillsborough this morning. bassett one   451 #24 Posted August 10, 2018 smoke moves very fast if its windy ,I think that's why we ended with the remnants of the blaze
 Share this content via...
