We allus used to go round t'lump when we lived on t' Parson Cross. It's called dialect me dears and not slang, but ni mind if that dunt gerrit. Ah bet Bobby Knutt still uses it!

silin dahn =heavy rain

 

I wonder where that comes from ? I 've never heard anybody use it outside of sheffield

Someone told me, many years ago, that Silin'/ Siling was a Norse word for heavy rain. I don't know how true that was.
