B&B not giving me a receipt ??

Slightly off topic but in Italy it is an offence for the shop and customer to leave the shop without a receipt for a purchase.

Even for a cup of coffee or a beer.

This to ensure that VAT has been paid and income has not been evaded.

A finance department officer can stop you as you leave and demand to see the receipt

I almost left a cafe having neglected to take the receipt and was chased and given it by the waiter.

What was the quality of the accommodation and breakfast like, was it OK and value for money? If the answer is no, a receipt wouldn’t have made any difference, if the answer is yes, what’s your problem? :confused:

If the OP needs to claim back expenses of an overnight stay through work then a receipt is usually needed for the audit train.

 

Did you book through an agent such as booking.com? If so then you can obtain a receipt from their website.

And in which case unless it's a very small company both parties are VAT registered and an invoice MUST be supplied...

Sounds dodgey to me as well. I wonder, did you pay cash, or credit or debit card which would show ?

 

If you pay cash why would you want a receipt ? It just leaves a paper trail.

Maybe he is working away from home and gets lodging allowance from his employer. If this is the case, his employer will require the receipt to claim it as a business expense when filing his taxes. This would also apply if he was self-employed. Perhaps the OP should have been a bit more specific as to why he needs the receipt.

Hi after staying in a B&B in the UK and after paying the bill on the last day they did not give me a receipt, all though I have ask them and I even send them an email requesting one back in June where they replied that one was been sent out.

I am still waiting for it, so I sent them another email this morning and looks like they have ignored my request.

 

I would like to know if any one can tell me.

 

1/ Can they refuse my request.

and

2/ Any one I can contact about this. as is seems a bit dodgy.

 

Does the e-mail you received telling you they had sent a receipt out have a business address in the transcript? If so don't delete it as that is proof of your stay,especially if you are going to pursue this matter.
