Bins they are a'changin

Recommended Posts

Firstly I do not condone fly tipping and will not be doing

In their "infinite wisdom" Rotherham Council have decided to change the bins.

The original black bin is now for plastics/recyclables.

A new black bin with a pink lid, which is just under half the size.

Now we recycle but being a family of 4 with 2 young children our black bin is normally 90% full come emptying time.

I think it's an incredibly idiotic move.

If it's normally 90% full when it's emptied, isn't that just the right size?

90% of the normal black bin yes. The new pink lid bins are 50% smaller.

I hope this bright idea doesn't reach Sheffield.

Our black bin is normally full come bin day, the recycling bin is just as full when that ones due to be emptied.

Would be interested in getting one too. we have nowhere sheltered to store the current large brown one and it repeatedly gets blown onto the road in high winds, spreading bottles and cans everywhere. As well as being inconvenient, it is potentially quite dangerous.

I added this as a note when we requested a replacement bin when the lid got broken off a couple of weeks ago, but have had no response from the council/Veolia.

Have had the exact same experience.   Constantly blowing over scattering glass, broken in the fall, everywhere and finally the lid breaking at the hinge.
