He is.

A decent and ordinary guy standing up for what he believes is right and just.

Dad has now been moved out of a critical condition and transferred to the rehabilitation ward in the hospital here in Spain. Due to his progress he has now been deemed stable enough for repatriation home and will travel via air ambulance the moment a bed in a specialist trauma ward becomes available. This could be days or weeks but ultimately Dad is progressing positively each day.

I can not explain in the adequate words my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has prayed, sent kind words and messages and to the incredibly compassionate staff at the hospital here who, have treated my father like their own. You have been incredible and a source of Gods kindness and care towards my family. So simply, thank you.

It really is going to be a long journey and the final outcome is not yet clear but by the grace of God and your kindness we are in a much better position than we were several weeks ago.

Good news from Jimmy's sons Facebook page.

"Very blue and a decent man" clearly an oxymoron.

And sticking with ..... the facts ... I accept they are inconvenient when they effecctively show a have a go hero coming unstuck, in public. In a place where multiple others chose not to intervene as presumably they assessed the threat as minimal.

It is sad. It is unfortunate. But it is what it is.

His own actions were ill thought out. Impulsive. Irrational and deeply regretable. I feel genuinely sympathetic for him but the hospitals of full of these mis-judgements.

Sad but true.

Let us hope that you never need help if threatened ,and lets hope that you are not the one to rely on if help needed by others.

My understanding was that he asked a group of men to stop harassing some young women in a bar. Perhaps’it was more than that. Perhaps he misread the situation.

I once intervened to stop someone attacking an elderly man at Sheffield Midland station, result, I was hospitalized twice and on anti biopics for weeks, ( elbow became infected) Eventually I needed an operation. British Transport Police’s attitude, «* nobody asked you to get involved*»

Never again.

I did eventually receive an apology from South York’s Police, even though it was British Transport.

Ridgewalk 'never again'.

Indeed a lesson learned and a tough one at that. I agree it has to be put into perspective. Balancing a desire to do the right thing whilst maintaining your own safety.

I cite as a good example the recent cave rescuers in Chiang Rai. The lead diver stated the first priority was to look after yourself. That is the reality of life. Many the time we've seen well meaning but totally misjudged rescue attempts, again in water, to save a dog or worse a child. The result has been that said child survives and parent needlessly drowns. And the death of a dog? In comparison with the loss of human life? Bonzo can go hang anytime in my book.

It's tough but there it is.

I prefer a cool head rather than a knee jerk reaction any time.

Albert Smith do you really wish me ill? That's an extreme a response to the mere expression of a different opinion and you should perhaps reconsider what you've said. I don't wish any ill on the not known to me individual who happens to have become a victim rather than a hero. I merely question the judgement shown.

Let's keep this civil at all times please.

Kidley you kid me not. 'Have a go hero' needs no defining as it is a commonly understood and used expression. I'm perfectly happy to accept any reasonable definition you propose. Confident as I am in its common parlance.

Are there any updates on Carol's progress?

Jimmy's progress is good, he is out of intensive care, the bleeding has stopped and he has moved on to a general ward.

the hunt for the people that did this continues.

I don’t think anyone was wishing you I’ll- maybe posting your opinions in this instance were a bit unnecessary.

I don't think that comment serves any useful purpose. I'd encourage all to offer their opinions; it's why it's called 'forum' .... an exchange of views. The clue is in the name. I think I've said that before somewhere. It was unnecessary as you seem to be advocating singing from the same hymn sheet which is tantamount to censorship.

Win the argument by all means but don't ask me to be silent in order for you to win friends and influence.

Good news regarding Carol's recovery.
