More doom and gloom to report. New Car sales in the UK fell 20% in September compared to last year. It seems carmakers struggle to cope with change even if it is not a consequence of Brexit.

 

Since 1 September, all cars sold in the EU have had to undergo a new test known as the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. This has replaced all existing tests of emissions and fuel economy and has caused carmakers to struggle to cope.

I must admit I"m a bit naïve when it comes to politics, I fell for the £350million per week that the NHS would receive, plus the promise we would all be much better off out. Did"nt in a thousand years realize all the implications it has caused.

What Leavers failed to understand right from the start of the campaign pre-referendum, was that car manufacturing, financial services, pharma research and all these other high-value GDP churners in the U.K. would, on a Leave vote outcome, become highly desirable for the poaching by the EU27, all (bar Germany) long trailing the U.K. in the economic growth and fiscal revenue stakes at the time.

 

I put that lack of understanding to insular thinking and lack of geopolitical perspective.

 

May & her government’s antics for the last 2 years, have enabled and then facilitated that poaching. An earlier no-deal exit would have turned that poaching into an overnight firesale...which may yet happen come 2019.

 

No punishing whatsoever in any of that, and still less by the EU as an entity: it’s just geopolitical competition between nation states, with France & Germany best positioned (along with others in more specialised sectors/advantages, eg Luxembourg for asset mgt, Slovakia for car m’facturing) to hoover up bits of U.K. plc’s market offer to the EU and beyond.

 

To paraphrase Carville well-known ditty, “It’s (still) the economy, stupids!”

The other thing they’ve signally failed to grasp is that it’s not just about buying and selling stuff, it is also about making stuff. So car parts flying freely around Europe oils the engine of economic growth. Putting tariffs on clutch plates and delays at our newly created trade border put the brakes on that growth. The solution for EU27 is blindingly obvious.

 

To steal a punchline from a very old joke, pretty soon it will stop raining Datsun cogs in the Uk.

It wasn't just the £350 million lie that the BBC News reported unchallenged, either.

 

The Today programme let Andrea Leadsom falsely claim that the UK sends £350 million a week to the UK on March 8 2016 and allowed Gisela Stuart to make the same false claim on April 15.

 

On May 11, the Today programme let Boris Johnson falsely claim that the UK sends the EU £20 billion a year without any challenge.

 

On March 8 Andrea Ledsom falsely claimed that 60% of our laws are made by the EU. That went unchallenged by the BBC.

 

David Davis falsely claimed on March 24 that the UK cannot prevent terrorists with EU passports from entering the UK and again, this wasn't challenged by the interviewer.

 

These are just a few examples of many blatant lies told by Vote Leave supporters to BBC interviewers and not challenged or even questioned.

 

The BBC's director of news defended the above by claiming that organisation had to deliver due impartiality and broad balance to both sides, which was ludicrously interpreted as having to report what either side in the debate said without question. As over 90% of false claims and misrepresentation came from Vote Leave, the BBC was terrified that by challenging mainly Vote Leave claims they would be accused of bias.

You can claim that yourself and the populace fully understood all the implications,and dissected the arguments before casting their vote,and I don’t believe you at all.

People read the headlines and many accept them as “FACT”

You only have to overhear pub and work conversations to despair at some of the beliefs and attitudes that people regurgitate having read some headline in the Sun or the medium of their choice.

So now we have career politicians trying to drive through some form of Brexit that was dictated by a largely uninformed leave vote.

There was no promise of extra NHS money, it was just used as an example of how money could be used rather than sending it to the EU every week.

 

Lets look at the other side of the referendum campaign when Barack Obama stood next to David Cameron and said the UK would be at the back of the queue for trade negotiations, if the UK voted to leave the EU. The leave campaign benefited the most after the fallout from that speech rather than the remain campaign, which Obama was trying to help.
