Haven't our standards been ok up to now ?

But this was said with reference to standards of goods and services, and yes, we can of course continue to meet EU standards with our goods and behaviour.

But the KEY thing here is that we won't get to DETERMINE those standards anymore.  We will be obliged to continue to meet them in order to trade, but we won't have any say in what they are.  So we will quite clearly be worse off than we are now.

That's what these clowns fail to recognise.

Yes, we may sew up some dodgy trade deals with the US and China but we will still have to conform to EU standards to be able to still sell to our biggest trading partner. We're not going to split our factories in two to produce Rogue Traders fridges for the US and China and CE approved fridges for the EU. We will have to manufacture fridges to the higher standard, a standard we will no longer have a part in deciding.

No need for us to worry about manufacturing standards for fridges,or any white goods for that matter. We no longer make them, but no doubt they form part of the mythical trading opportunities that will be available to us once we have left the EU.

At the moment we are running a big deficit in the fridge trade as we hope be able to stock a few weeks supply of the many drugs which we import from the EU.

It may have escaped your notice but up until the UK leaves we are still part of the EU so the standards are also ours.

The EU is fairly socialist and socially conscious.  The UK wasn't so much interested in workers rights, health and safety (for staff), the environment (for the public) and so on before it had to be.
