UK should have zero tariffs on imports, which would make prices cheaper for the UK people.

For those who's job hasn't been wiped out by these cheap imports...

Yeah, he runs a bargain basement pub and it's probably the case that Weatherspoons see's an increase in business whenever the economy does badly. Much like Aldi and Lidl. People move their spending down market in order to save money.

So a no deal brexit is good for Weatherspoons, that doesn't mean it's good for us though.

What do you import/export? And in what way is Europe the hardest to deal with?

i import high quality motorcycle bespoke clothing from china, pakistan, vietnam and india mainly for racing, the eu in its wisdom now have created a CE dictat on all motorcycle clothing which makes some areas of m/c clothing almost not viable for the smaller importer.

You know the point of CE marking right? It isn’t just a layer of red tape to make your life difficult. It is there for consumer and environmental safety. If you’re a dodgey importer, then you deserve clamping down.

You should really quote posts in full and then highlight parts you are commenting on, then all the other posters would know I was stating what the owner of Wetherspoons said.

You need to post the source for your Tim Martin quote then people can see the context of the bit you selected..

Tim Martin made his comments on one of the news channels. I can't remember which news channel it was.

then you clearly dont understand the CE marking of Motorcycle clothing, we have in the past made garments for London transport police and professional racers and still do today with no complaints but under some of the CE certification this is made difficult if not impossible to make a comfortable safe garment and the end user doesnt want to wear the item as its too restrictive and bulky, its all to do with perceived risks from bureaucrats and academics that do not understand the subject mostly.

ha ha dodgy importer thats good:thumbsup:

So some manufacturers and importers are perfectly able to be compliant and yet you can't

Also, the people who come up with the legislation for consumer safety, like you say can be academics, have no idea what is involved in lets say crash safety? You know these so called academics are doctors and people who specialise in biomechanics right? Safety is a forever evolving process, if safety can be improved then it rightly should do. For example, cars nowadays are vastly safer in crashes because of improved legislation compared to cars built in the 80s. If you're saying motorcyclists do not deserve such protection, then say so.

The poster stated he has made garments for London Transport Police and professional racers. I am guessing safety is big factor for these buyers of his garments.

And if the kit you sell doesn’t perform in an accident, then who is going to be on the hook.

Looking at you by the way.

Careful with your advertising of the substandard kit, if you get a chance to sell it.
