The Consequences of Brexit [part 5] Read 1st post before posting

Recommended Posts

After the 1973-74 Oil price shock – the UK economy went into recession, causing a rise in unemployment.

After the 1980-81 recession, unemployment rose even further. This rise in unemployment proved more persistent because it caused structural unemployment – resulting from the decline in the manufacturing sector.

Structural unemployment. Another feature of unemployment in the 1980s was that even during the boom period 1985-89, unemployment was relatively high. This suggests the existence of structural unemployment (e.g. mismatch of labour due to change in industrial factors. Since 2013, we have seen unemployment fall by more than previous recoveries – suggesting structural unemployment (or natural rate of unemployment) is lower in the 2010s than in the 1980s.

Unemployment in the 80's was despite the economic boom!

If you were a dodgy builder in the 70's and needed planning approval, you would simply buy it by handing a brown envelope full of cash to the relevant official or councillor.

If you were a male boss in the 70's and fancied a grope of a female employee you would do it knowing that most of your colleagues would turn a blind eye and if she complained you could always sack her.

If you were an employer in the 70's and one of your workers raised health and safety concerns, you could simply sack them and tell the rest of your workers that they would get the same.

If you were gay in the 70's and were picked on by your colleagues and complained to your boss you would be told to either grow a thick skin or not be so obvious about your sexuality.

If you were a landlord in the 70's and didn't want the time and expense to evict a tenant you could just pay some local heavies to get rid of them.

If you were a police officer in the 70's and you wanted a conviction you could simply beat one out of your suspect then charge them with assaulting a police officer.

If you were a trade union activist in the 70's who was sacked you would find that you couldn't get another job in your industry because the local National Front organiser had forwarded your name to an employer's black list.

If you were an Asian shop keeper in the 70's the first thing you would do in the morning would be to clean up the dog faeces that had been posted through your letterbox.

If you were a Freemason in the 70's and were stopped for drunk driving you could mention the Chief Constable's name and you'd be on your way.

If you wanted to racially abuse someone in a pub in the 70's and they objected, you could laugh it off by saying they had no sense of humour.

Yeah, great times the 70's.

I can only deduct from the above that it is an history lesson, all the now eu countries was the same as your post above.

Are you saying that the U.K was like your post above and the rest of the weston world wasn't?

Hundreds of portaloos to be deployed on the motorways in the wake of expected gridlocked lorries.

I'm not sure if that story belongs in the Mail on Sunday or the Sunday Sport.

Unemployment in the 80's was despite the economic boom!

Employment was available for almost everyone who wanted to work in the 1970's, including large numbers of women who entered the workforce.

It was very different in the 1980's, with high unemployment, and the young were hit especially hard.

EU (EEC) membership was no safeguard against economic recession back then and it's no safeguard against it today. Despite what Project Fear peddlers would have us believe.

Strong trades unions protected the pay and conditions of workers in the 1970's.

In the 1980's, after Thatcher brought in legislation to destroy the rights of workers and reduce the effectiveness of Trades unions, we saw over 3 million unemployed and the rise of the single market with its emphasis on freedoms for business.

And it was your 'capitalist club' which stepped in to protect British workers' rights with health and safety legislation, working time directives and other measures to protect workers rights.

Where is the bull generator you use?

Please I want it.

http://www.bull****generator.com/ doesn't come anywhere near it because it doesn't distort the truth and peddle factual inaccuracies like yours does...

What has happened to Lockdoctor?

I miss his constant claims that he voted remain. Maybe he was a Russian bot with a glitch in the matrix! ;)

You obviously weren't economically active in the 1980's, with over 3 million unemployed. I guess you are looking at it from a Bosses point of view.

I was as it happens.

The 80s recession in Britain was nothing to do with the EU. It was artificially manufactured by U.K. politicians.
