The Consequences of Brexit [part 5] Read 1st post before posting

Sorry you're just repeating that the EU referendum was not legally binding, which everyone knows. The facts are the UK Government have already stated they intend to honour the decision the democratic people made, which makes your point, pointless. The issue is whether or not the UK are really honouring the decision the people made, if the UK stays in the Single Market and Customs Union. Leave voters are entitled to feel cheated if the UK doesn't fully leave the EU.

Because the 48% were on the losing side. Those Scottish voters who voted to Leave the EU were on the winning side of the EU referendum.

So leave won and sod the rest?

What a country that would be. Lets hope the next time a tory government with a big majority doesnt have that attitude.

Sorry the whole issue of whether the EU referendum vote was binding has been fully discussed before. It was made perfectly clear before the vote that the UK Government intended to carry out whatever decision the UK people made. The facts are Leave won the democratic EU referendum vote. You can't 52% leave the EU and 48% remain in the EU. If the UK had voted 52% to remain in the EU, then I would have expected the UK Government to make sure the UK remained 100% in the EU.

The 38% of people who voted to leave the EU in Scotland deserve to have their choice implemented, which is for the UK to leave the EU because the whole of the UK voted by majority to leave the EU. Scotland is part of the UK just Like London is part of the UK.

And the 62% in Scotland who voted remain should be ignored By their MPs..?

Yes, and the entire Scottish population placed in eternal servitude to Boris Johnson and/or the queen.

We won a battle there a while back so it's only fair.

A referendum is the fairest way to decide, which option to follow on a single issue. The winning side in a referendum gets over 50% of the vote, which is the majority of the people. However, in a UK General Election the majority of voters normally vote against the party which becomes the Government. A Government should take into account the wishes of the whole of the people when ruling. However, regarding the EU referendum vote, then the wishes of the winning side should carried out and the wishes of the losing side should be ignored. It's impossible for both sides wishes to be carried out.

It’s when I see posts like this, that I’m reminded why I still don’t feel the slightest bit of shame at watching this slo-mo car crash with a small degree of satisfaction :D

Sorry Remainers. You’ve got your educational challenge all cut out, looks like :)

Yes, they should ignore their wishes. There was never a referendum about whether Scotland should remain in the EU, but there was a referendum about whether the whole of the UK should remain or leave the EU. Scotland is part of the UK, just like Sheffield is part of the UK. Sheffield MPs should also ignore the wishes of Sheffield people who wish to remain in the EU. The point of a referendum is to decide which option to follow and the majority of the whole of the UK people made that decision, which was for the UK to leave the EU.

Just another reminder that MPs are not delegates.

More people voted Tory than Labour in the last election..should Labour shut up and carry out the wishes of the Tory voting UK?

Just another reminder that you’re busy peeing in a violin to try and get a tune out of it ;)

I’ll just leave this here for posterity. It epitomises the difference between Leavers’ empty rethoric, that has fuelled the current real-life situation and much of the misconceptions in the debate in here, and the cold hard reality of facts. Besides being a fitting epitaph for David Davis’ political career.

It really is too good to not pass it along.

Boris Johnson has resigned as Foreign Secretary. Who says Brexit has no upsides?

Well we have found one MP who has some honour. Well done that man.

He made up a load of guff he knew wasn't true, completely overplayed his abilities then spectacularly failed to deliver on anything he promised despite saying it was going to be "easy".

Then he bails to let someone else sort out the mess he created.

Honour indeed! :loopy:
