Uncanny Valley Chatbots

The "chatbots" have entered the "Uncanny Valley". This is particularly unsettling.

The uncanny valley is a common unsettling feeling people experience when androids (humanoid robots) and audio/visual simulations closely resemble humans in many respects but are not quite convincingly realistic.

.

 

It's the bot's simpering raising of the eyebrow, thousand mile stare that makes me shiver.

Chatbots are being touted as being useful in a "caring " role, to provide emotional support for lonely aged people-you know, like having an electric puppy dog in their lap.
