Gary Cahill - Where was he born?

Recommended Posts

Wiki etc. says Dronfield (so he's therefore not eligible for England's current Yorkshire gang). But other sources (e.g. Sky) say Sheffield (so he's a Yorkshireman).

Which is it? The family lived in Dronfield but maybe his mum went into labour when they were shopping in Sheffield so they went to Jessops. Or summat.

He went to school in Dronfield with my friends children I'm pretty sure he played for Dronfield in the hope valley league.

If his mother had given birth to him whilst on holiday in say Spain,it wouldn’t make him Spanish, he would take on the citizenship of his parents, and if, like many Dronfielders, his parents were Sheffielders, the same would apply.

He also was eligible to play for Ireland.

Big Jack’s criteria for eligibility to play for the Republic was the consumption of a pint of Guinness. :hihi:

True - he can be a Sheffielder if he wants. But where was he born? Is he Yorkshire-born or Derbyshire? Was it Sheff or Dronny? Northerner or Midlander?

From Wikipedia....... Cahill was born and raised in Dronfield, Derbyshire and attended Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School.[4][5] He was a boyhood Sheffield Wednesday supporter and grew up watching Sheffield Wednesday, and points to Des Walker as his childhood hero.

In the first line of the OP I referred to Wiki so no need to quote it.

No-one's answered the question yet. Anyone know?
