Little Attercliffe

Recommended Posts

I saw a reference to little Attercliffe on a photo on the Picture Sheffield website

Does anyone know where exactly this was?

I’ve seen a few references online but doesn’t pinpoint where it was.

I wondered if it was the old name for Darnall or Main Road.

Any ideas ?

There is a small lane between the old salvation army citadel and the old school on Darnall Road. To my knowledge that is where Little Attercliffe was. You will find pictures online. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong. I live near there and enjoy looking at old maps and local history.

I have a copy of a 1903 Ordnance Survey map and it shows Little Attercliffe as an open area from Shirland Lane down to Darnall Main Road and from Bawtry Road, which became Wilstrop Road, as far as Balfour Road. The area included the Schools on Darnall Main Road and the area that became the Fire Station.
