Lancs_Lad   10 #7 Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) It's already a PITA in Malin Bridge due to the tram stop. Traffic regularly grinds to a halt with traffic backing up past the Anvil at times. The 2 new housing developments at Stannington and the proposed housing development on the old Sportsman Pub site near the doctors surgery is only going to add to the misery. Definitely not the best place for a new supermarket.  I believe the council have also been monitoring traffic flow on Walkley Bank Rd due to Stannington traffic using Hollins Lane. If they do anything about that things will get even worse. Edited July 1, 2018 by Lancs_Lad
 Share this content via...
max   13 #8 Posted July 1, 2018 According to Lidl press release they are taking the site where the Rivelin Motor company is.  The plans were displayed at St Polycarps.  The footprint will be Rivelin Motor Company plus the scrap yard, Gas cCub and tennis court behind it. The land will extend behind the dentists' surgery and include car parking space for the surgery.  The road will be widened to allow a third, filter to lane to be included which will allow right turners coming from to Hillsborough to wait without holding up traffic. Definitely not the best place for a new supermarket.  I believe the council have also been monitoring traffic flow on Walkley Bank Rd due to Stannington traffic using Hollins Lane. If they do anything about that things will get even worse.  As shown by the nightmare when it was closed a few weeks ago, Hollins Lane is vitally important to prevent Malin Bridge grinding to a halt. The council would be mad to try to restrict that route, even if residents are complaining about 'rat running' (if a car is taxed and insured it can be driven on any public road etc but that's another issue).
