Recommended Posts

A conductor earns about £17k a year. A driver about &22k. Train drivers earn £55k ish.

are those full time rates Hook? That's much lower than I expected! :o

So how does their wage stand up to what seems to be the standard comparator nowadays, the prime minister?

Wow! They want more than NHS workers who save lives!

And fail to mention the increases in previous years when everyone had pay freezes etc.

Theyre paid well as it is. 26p per hour is a very decent pay rise .

No sympathy for them

Sod your race to the bottom. NHS workers are poorly paid, that doesn't mean everyone else should be, it means NHS workers should be better paid.

6% over 3 years for doing a more valuable job comparrd to nearly 5% over 2 years.

What were your increases over last 5 years when nhs/public sector got 1%?

Might be more valuable in health terms, but if the health workers cant get to work because all the transport workers are on strike for better terms, they have NO value

They’re the worst paid of all the UK’s tram networks. Metrolink drivers earn up to £28k. There is no such progression at Supertram.

Mertolink don't have to pay conductors and even out of the peak it is very common to have two conductors nowadays.

dont like the job and the pay rate then leave simple.

26p per hour may not seem a lot but its more than others and would be interesting to see what they get paid per hour anyway?

So because Metrolink don’t have conductors it’s okay to pay drivers more? They have a fleet of inspectors who earn a lot more than conductors at Supertram.

Conductors on trains earn around £30k a year, nearly double tram conductors.

As regards to trams being doubled up they have a max of 5 part-time conductors on during peak who work in key areas such as Station - shalesmoor or middlewood - uni. They never double up entire runs, or duties. I’m not sure what your argument is.

They have always had that option and for as long as there are others who would work for that pay then Stagecoach can simply replace them assuming that the cost of training does not outweigh the pay offer.

I wonder how much the salary for the MD of Stagecoach and Brian Souter has increased over the same period

At Northern, Conductors in the east are currently on circa £26K* (with ~4% pay rises) and there are an awful lot of SuperTram conductors (and drivers) making the move across. It's no co-incidence that SuperTram are pretty much always recruiting.

*That's basic. Once commission, rest day working, sunday pay etc are included it can be far far more.

But tram conductors aren't train conductors/guards, nor do they have the same responsibilities as the latter either. So they aren't going to get paid anywhere near the same, just because they share the word "conductor" in the job title.

Good for them. We don't strike enough in this country. The french get better wages than us, better holiday entitlement and better pensions why? Because they stick up for themselves and back up each other when workers want a better deal....
