Rise in Pauper's funerals

I typed "Basic Funeral Cost" into Google - the top three results were one for £895, one for £495 and a CoOp one for £1995.

 

The last two funerals I arranged were under £1800, they weren't basic or paupers ones, so I don't know where this figure of £4k comes from and what it entails.

 

Same here..the last was my MiL it cost less than 2k and we had the hearse and another car ,a cremation and a "funeral tea" This was in Barnsley...

We decided some years ago to go down the donation route when we're done living.

Which is admirable but your family need to of know your wishes if your body is not suitable for some reason.

That would avoid them having to make a decision that you might not have agreed with.

Average cost of £4,078 for Burial, and simple ceremony. £3,311 for cremation with simple service, £1,600 for collection and disposal of body and return of ashes, no ceremony/service.

 

I suggest the results from your search were, as with all adverts, simply a come on to attract attention. The real cost beng far higher when all the necessaries are added on.

The biggest problem seems to be the cost of a burial in London which takes a funeral to over £7,000 due to supply and demand. The space simply isn't there anymore.

Trust funerals £1,100 deal includes cremation and return of ashes. There are plenty more at a similar price, if you don’t need someone who didn’t know the deceased to talk a load of false sentimental garbage.

My lovely Mum died relatively recently - the family spoke about her with great fondness at the funeral because she was much loved as well as 'someone who didn't know her' who spoke about her from our memories because it would have just been too difficult and painful for us to do it all.

You may think that is a load of sentimental garbage but it actually helped us all to appreciate the woman and what she had achieved in her life.

A funeral can be many things to different people but for us we needed that gathering to mourn the lovely woman she was.

Sorry about your loss, I’m pleased that you were satisfied with the ceremony, conversally I attended the funeral of a friend of some 50 years standing back in Jan this year, had I not known that it was his I could have been that of anyone.

 

I’m very sentimental about living people and animals, all those that are no longer with me are a lovely memory, albeit my memory.

Tin foilhat. I remember a friend once saying she wanted to be buried at sea with the wind in the wrong direction at the time of the deed, so she could get up her husbands nose one more time! i cracked me up!!!
