New Buses in Sheffield are Annoying

Recommended Posts

First have got some new buses in and o.k might look good ,but everytime a bus pulls into a stop the Engines cut off all the time, and when your wanting to get to work or somewhere else, its making it harder for the drivers to work to there timetables, they might be to stop pollution, but one day one of the buses will not be able to restart the engines, wish there was something they could do to stop this happening as it gets very annoying indeed

Same as what happens to cars. Won't make them any slower and buses are better maintained than most cars, so the stop-start system won't be an issue.

Oh yes- we could definitely do with more old, dirty buses that belch out pollution. Just like the good old days.

Sure, they were filthy, cold and polluted the environment- but at least they weren't 'annoying'!

Are they just stop-start or are they hybrid where the engine charges the battery which actually provides the power to the wheels? Think Stagecoach have been running some of these for some time, it's all to do with cutting down pollution.

Now that could be an idea, why don't Stagecoach reintroduce horses to pull their stagecoaches

They're hybrids. They switch between power types. It's broadly known as 'long overdue progress'....not that some see it that way of course!

What an utterly random complaint !!

At least wait until the day that you ARE inconvenienced by one of these busses not restarting on demand. Until that day, why not compliment the bus companies on how their fleets now emit less pollution especially during those long stops where they're picking up or setting down significant customer numbers. Surely it's got to be a good thing !!

So it's bad that First have bought some buses as one might break down one day.

Right. OK then...

Seen one of them old buses being towed away last week. Them new buses will be less polluting.

I find them less annoying. Engine switches off, a relaxing moment of peaceful silence.

Several are going to Cornwall where I believe the maintenance staff are clued up on how to run older buses. Chances are they will perform well down there.

They are Micro-hybrid, the "hybrid" buses run by Stagecoach can only be deemed a failure unless you are the owner of a certain local recovery company who has made a fortune out of towing these buses back to base.

Micro hybrid around 10% more efficient and upto 30% more fuel efficient than old buses. They capture braking energy and are much lighter than the old noisy busses. That does not annoy me at all.

Probably the worst piece of design I've seen on First Buses is the bolt holding the used ticket collection box.

The bolt is suposed to hold the box vertical, releasing the bolt allows the box to swing-down thus emptying the box.

However, the bolt cannot be secured when holding the box upright, the up-shot of which, general vibration within the

bus allows the bolt to release an empty the box contents all over the floor along with a loud bang from the action

of a metal box on metal framework.

i remember when stagecoach first got theirs on the 120 route and remember thinking, what a strange feeling when setting off on battery power.

so quiet and smooth it was quite relaxing. just a little noisy when the engine kicked in a revved up under braking.
