AY1975 Â Â 11 #1 Posted May 23, 2018 Stagecoach has put out a consultation leaflet about proposed changes to service 50/50a/50b (Sheffield-Mosborough-Eckington-Chesterfield). They are proposing to make the service limited-stop between Sheffield Interchange and Birley Lane, Hackenthorpe from 2nd September. At the same time they plan to introduce new buses on the route. Â The idea is that the route will only serve certain stops as far as Hackenthorpe to provide faster journey times for passengers making journeys such as Sheffield city centre to Mosborough or Eckington. They will still observe all stops between Hackenthorpe and Chesterfield. Â I would guess that passengers from places like Mosborough and Eckington would benefit from shorter journey times to and from Sheffield if they are going to the city centre. However, they could be inconvenienced if they want to get to any of the stops where the 50 will no longer call - for example if they live in Mosborough and need to drop off or collect their kids at the nursery at the bottom of Hopefield Avenue, Frecheville, although that stop will presumably still be served by the 53 (Sheffield-Mansfield) and the 71 (Sheffield-Killamarsh-Chesterfield) unless they decide to do the same with those routes as well! And of course those stops will still be served by the 120. Â What do you think? Can you think of any other bus routes to and from Sheffield where limited-stop operation might be a good idea? alchresearch   213 #4 Posted May 24, 2018 What do you think? Can you think of any other bus routes to and from Sheffield where limited-stop operation might be a good idea?  I used to like the X30 running from Woodhouse to town, via the Parkway. Does that still run?
 Share this content via...
Geo-atkinson   10 #5 Posted May 24, 2018 It's a case of what goes around comes around here. They tried this years ago when l lived on Occupatuion Lane. The result was almost empty buses coming out of Sheffield with only people going to Mosborough and beyond aboard.  The result was. After a year or so Stagecoach claimed that the service was not viable before Eckington so the Eckington to Sheffield part was scrapped and passengers had to catch the 53 to Eckington bus station and change for Chesterfield.  I smell a rat here... Guest busdriver1 Â Â #6 Posted May 24, 2018 Its part of a plan to "upgrade" the service to a Gold service using the worn out buses off the X17. If they can run part of it limited stop they can then renumber it X50 to give the impression its a fast service. Emperor's new clothes style. Â It's about time limited stop services were brought back for the outlying parts of Sheffield, worn out Gold ex-X17 buses or not. It did seem strange seeing one of these allocated to the 50 a couple of years ago in Mosborough though. Â Remember the good old days of when this part of Sheffield had proper limited stop services X51/X52/X54/X55 plus the East Midland X50. None of this stopping at every single stop lark then, just quick and easy in and out of the city.
 Share this content via...

Guest busdriver1 Â Â #9 Posted May 25, 2018 New buses due soon for X17 and route extended to Barnsley via Meadowhall. Â Only alternate journies and at certain times. Not a comprehensive service and given the already poor time keeping on the X17 I cant see this helping.
 Share this content via...
Martin C Â Â 81 #10 Posted May 25, 2018 (edited) There's always that (not so) superb example of an "X" bus service - the X78. Every single stop on its very long route to and from Doncaster. Â Indeed, and now it gets small single deckers on it very often not an attractive route to use at all.
 Share this content via...
niallzi   10 #12 Posted May 25, 2018 I think its a good idea, they've already implemented something similar for Killamarsh by sending the 72 from Crystal Peaks to the city centre straight down the parkway, whilst the 71 continues to serve Mosborough, Birley etc and goes the old route into town.
