Hillsborough - Who drove through mother duck and 7 ducklings?

Recommended Posts

Not being funny, but is it an offence to run over ducks in the road, shocking whatever.

I am sure that cruelty to animals is an offence under some law.

I would like to bet there is a law somewhere that covers.

I hope so.

Can't believe what I've just read, that's horrible. Is there any cctv in that area, may be able to get the reg-plate?

Livesy Street, Hillsborough, junction with Penistone Road 17.15 today.

> Witness told me she saw a driver of small silver car go from stationary to deliberately plough through mum and 7 ducklings crossing road;

> Mother duck - broken leg - distressed made for river

> 3 duckings flattened on the road dead

> 4 ducklings distressed running away from fantastic staff from Evans Halshaw doing a great job of rounding them up on a big heap of stones where they were escaping.

> EH staff apparently reported to RSPCA who were sending someone.

Did anyone see this or get the numberplate?

Thanks!

You mean when the traffic lights changed from red to green?

Some context would be good as to the exact circumstances.

If you didnt see them you would. Hence why I asked was it the point when the lights changed from red to green, or a much more deliberate act.

I'll wait to hear the other side of the story, and as we will probably never get it....

One persons opinion, who doesnt state if it happened as the lights changed which adds a slightly different complexion to it as they may have been looking at the lights and moved off without seeing anything on the road.

Nowt will be done about it anyway.

Unsure as to what they would be able to do tbh. They are wild animals and an unprotected species as far as I know.

https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/wildlife/laws

More common animals, such as the fox or rabbit, are not protected, but some methods used to kill them are prohibited e.g. self-locking snares.

Ducks are a common animal.

I've seen a mother and umpteen ducklings use the zebra crossing by the side of the twisted spire in Chesterfield many times.

Never fails to bring smiles to the drivers who wait patiently, as the birds waddle across...
