Shevchenko to Chelsea - £34m

Recommended Posts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/5000208.stm

Chelsea moved a step closer to smashing the British transfer record when AC Milan gave Andriy Shevchenko permission to talk to the Blues

The 29-year-old Ukraine international will now visit Stamford Bridge to discuss terms on a proposed £34m move.

A statement on Chelsea's website said: "We can confirm he has been given permission to travel to London."

Shevchenko is expected to undergo a medical later on Wednesday but Chelsea stressed: "No deal has been done yet."

So, who's going to challenge Chelsea for the title next season then?

Buying the title my arse, money doesn't buy success.

It can pay huge transfer fees and wages, but it can't gel a group of individuals together. Credit to Mourinho for that.

World football is full of examples of clubs that spent big and achieved nothing, though Chelsea have undoubtedly topped the big-spenders list.

Chelsea's squad is looking pretty formiddable for next season:

Strikers

Shevchenko (one of the worlds best strikers)

Drogba (good target man)

Kalou (awesome scoring record and lightening fast)

Midfielders

Lampard (one of the worlds best midfielders and very consistent)

Cole (on his day, up there with the worlds best)

Essien

Makalele (solid as a rock)

Ballack (top midfielder)

Robben

Duff

Wright-Phillips

Defenders

Terry (one of the worlds best defenders)

Gallas

Ferreira

Carvalho

Huth

Goalkeepers

Cech (best keeper in the premiership, up there with the best in world football)

Cudicini

I expect Jose to snap up a couple of defenders and an extra midfielder

If Jose fails to win the Champions League with that, he has failed.

Is Shevchenko involved in any of the corruption scandels in Italy. I know a few AC Milan players are

Very true. I honestly think he'll do it and go. Although he's respected, he'll never have true respect because of the money he spent

It's only slightly higher than the £31M Man Utd paid for Rio in 2002.

Crespo wants to go back to AC so they might work out a deal. At the end of the day it's a lot less than some European transfers or S American for that matter.

As for "buying another Premiership", You can have the money to buy a Ferrari but you still have to be able to drive it.

True - But I think the earlier comment is correct. I believe once Mourinho wins the C League, he will leave Chelsea.

His ego is such is that the accusations of the money winning it, rather than him, will be too much for him to bear.

If he wins it somewhere else, he will go down in history as a legendary manager.

Agreed with you mate.

If Jose does not win the CL with that squad now.. they never will.

How much more cash do they need to splash on the squad to buy the cups??
