Practical anarchism in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Cheran is a town of around 18,000 people in Mexico. About 7 years ago, fed up with corrupt politicians in cahoots with drug cartels and other criminals who were illegally logging the forests around the town, they ran all political parties and the drug cartels out of their town and set up their own democratic structures and began running things themselves, and they are still going. This means that everyone is involved in a meaningful way with any decisions that affect the inhabitants and they have a high degree of control over the things that are important to them. In a state that experiences a terrible level of drug related violence, Cheran is now free of that. I think this is a good example to us all that we don't need politicians, can run things without them and do a better job ourselves.
