Home made bird feeders

Recommended Posts

I wish to make a bird feeder/cage so that the small birds can go inside and get the food, but keeping pigeons, magpies and squirrels out. The ones I have which have been bought from pet shops etc are not really good enough.

What would be the best size of mesh to use for this purpose and where would I be able to obtain it, also I think it would be best if it was powder coated or plastic coated.

I would welcome any advice necessary in making a feeder/cage.

If you want to reduce cost, make a tube/box using chicken mesh to surround your standard bird feeder.

They aren't going to keep the food safe and dry. You aren't supposed to let birds take whole nuts as they can choke the young. I wasn't sure if this was meant to be tongue in cheek humour. Ive seen people suggesting these bra feeders before and they were being serious.
