Stokes Paints - Closed?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Anyone know what has happened to Stokes Paints on Abbeydale Rd? They had only moved up to the new shop 2 or 3 years ago, but driving past recently they seem to have closed. I'm hoping it's temporary or they're moving as it was a great shop.

I think it changed to spencer coatings? Anyway the prices were about a third more expensive than other places. Such a shame because stokes paints was decent quality

Far as I remember, it closed around Christmas time. Heard a rumour that it's to become a coffee shop or one of those craft beer places that seem to be springing up?

Thanks for the replies; what a shame it's gone. Google seems to think the Huthwaite shop is still open. Anywhere else which will mix Farrow & Ball (or other) colours for a sensible price and decent quality? I know B&Q etc will do it but they charge handsomely for a custom mix, whereas Stokes were reasonable at £20ish for 5L as I recall.

Spencer coatings took over Stokes some years ago, although i think Mr Stokes stayed at the new company for w awhile.Mr Spencer is or has left Spencer coatings as they themselves have now been taken over by an American company, with some degree of specialisation in motor car coatings as opposed to paints.

Good idea, get yourself a few craft beers and forget the painting...
