parkydave   10 #14 Posted March 1, 2018 Yes sometimes birds seem to stop using our feeder but they always come back . Starlings are a pain I know . At the moment sea gulls take any feed we throw on to ground , a full loaf of bread can go in 5 mins .
 Share this content via...
lazarus   68 #15 Posted March 1, 2018 I've always put feeders up with peanuts or fatballs, a few years ago I had all kinds of song birds, now I'm lucky if I see a couple of Blue Tits a year, the reason I think is Magpies and to a lesser degree Cats. I still persevere with the feeders and hope the birds return.
 Share this content via...

Fogey   10 #17 Posted March 1, 2018 A couple of months back I got a bird feeder for the garden. It went well at first, lots of interest from various types of birds, and occasionally it got absolutely swarmed by Starlings. But now nothing, no birds are interested at all and I can't understand why.  What do you put in the feeder? We have had a good run for most of the year with fat balls but when it got really cold things dropped off, presumably because the birds don't want to peck through the rock hard frozen fat. We switched to seeds and nuts on the table and in some of our feeders which seem popular.
 Share this content via...
horribleblob   202 #18 Posted March 1, 2018 Sunflower kernels are very popular with the small birds visiting my feeders. For blackbirds, an apple – cut in half so it doesn't roll away – goes down well.
 Share this content via...
