The standard northern access to Birchin Ridge (Nelson Monument) is the path from the A621 crossroads.

The first stretch from the gate is always very wet and boggy and I have been looking (from home) for a dryer alternative.

The ridge does continue until further up Clodhill Lane. From satellite images and Google Stretview, I can see that there is a gate on Clodhill Lane with a rough vehicle track running southwest towards the ridge where it can pick up the footpaths.

There is no footpath shown on the OS, but neither is the signposted path from the crossroads.

Does anyone know if access from this gate is permissible and/or legal?
